Croatia back on training field after crushing Semi-Final loss

Croatia's Luka Modric did some light jogging in training on Wednesday as speculation over his international future continued to grow.

Earlier head coach Zlatko Dalic could not confirm whether the playmaker will decide to retire from his national team after Saturday's World Cup third-place playoff, but said the "whole world would miss him" if he opted to hang up his boots.

Dalic admitted the 37-year-old playmaker was "very disappointed" and "hit really hard" by Tuesday's 3-0 semi-final defeat to Argentina which extinguished hopes of reaching a second successive World Cup final.

Modric's masterful performance at the Lusail Iconic Stadium – the venue for Sunday's final – was overshadowed by the display of the 35-year-old Lionel Messi as he seeks his first World Cup triumph.

The PSG player scored a first-half penalty and made a superb second-half run which set up Julian Alvarez for his second goal of the game to make it 3-0 on 69 minutes.

On Saturday Croatia will meet the loser of Wednesday's second semi-final between France and Morocco.

Defender Josko Gvardiol may be out of the game at the Khalifa International Stadium with a foot problem which meant he didn't train before the Argentina game and midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is also an injury doubt.
