Military deployed as Peru declares state of emergency

Crowds of protesters marched on the streets of Peru’s second largest city, Arequipa, in support of the ousted president, Pedro Castillo. The new government has declared a national emergency in an attempt to tackle the violent unrest, with the military deployed on the streets.
