In 2015, Vizio was sued for collecting the viewing habits such as what DVDs, Cable TV shows, and streaming videos customers were watching. They did this without the customer's knowledge or consent. Vizio also facilitated appending viewer demographic data such as age, sex, marital status, income, and education levels to their viewing habits and sold it to 3rd parties for "various purposes." Vizio paid a $2.2 million dollar settlement for spying on 11 million smart TVs.
