When was the last time you walked through a lonely wasteland? One where you have nothing with you and nothing pressing to do, so that you can hear your own heart, so that you can hear the voice of the Father? I am certainly not Catholic, but this is the theme for this week, as we go through the last leg of preparation for Christmas on Sunday. Is the outside all gussied up like the whitewashed tombs of the prophets were by the pharisees? Busy just to be busy and to look good? Or busy so that you don’t have to hear the emptiness in our own hearts as they beat in our chests? Slow down. Take time amidst the rush and noise to heed our own souls’ needs.
