Humans have invented many incredible things over the years: The printing press, the internet, penicillin, airplanes, electricity… the list goes on.

But perhaps our most notable discovery is nuclear fission – otherwise known as splitting the atom.

Why was this discovery so important? Because it has the potential to completely wipe us off the face of the Earth. It would be an ironic end to our race. Let us not forget that it is our capability to create tools that sets us apart from other animals – our ability to use our brains.

Our technological prowess might have made us the dominant species on this planet, but it may also prove to be our doom. And if we ever wipe ourselves out with nuclear weapons, we’ll probably take most of the other animals down with us.

But how powerful are nuclear weapons, anyway? What about conventional explosives?
