Avatar The Way of Water opens with only $5M MORE than Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness (the previous 2022 opening record holder). The problem is that Avatar has China and Doctor Strange did NOT. While this MIGHT bode ill for Avatar 2 success it's still far too early to tell as this film is very likely to leg out far more than the typical MCU Phase 4 film
