Platforms.
The blogging platform you choose will have a big impact on the success of your blog. There are a few factors to consider when choosing a platform, such as ease of use, cost, flexibility, and features.
Ease of use: WordPress is widely considered to be the easiest platform to use. If you’re not comfortable with code, then WordPress is a good choice. Tumblr and Blogger are also pretty easy to use.
Cost: WordPress and Tumblr are both free. Medium charges a monthly fee. Blogger is free, but you’ll have to pay for hosting if you want a custom domain name. Ghost is also free, but it’s more difficult to set up than other platforms.
Flexibility: WordPress is the most flexible platform because it allows you to install themes and plugins to change the look and feel of your blog, as well as add new features. Tumblr and Blogger are less flexible because they don’t have as many themes and plugins available. Medium is somewhat flexible because it allows you to customize the look of your blog, but you can’t add new features without paying for a premium account. Ghost is very inflexible because it doesn’t allow you to make any changes to the design or functionality of your blog without editing the code yourself.
Features: WordPress has the most features available of any platform. It has an intuitive interface, an extensive plugin library, and great support from its developers and community. Tumblr has fewer features than WordPress, but it’s still pretty user-friendly with its simple layout and drag-and-drop interface. Blogger has some basic features, but it’s not as user-friendly as WordPress or Tumblr. Medium has a limited set of features, but it’s designed to be simple and straightforward so that anyone can use it without any hassle. Ghost doesn’t have many features out of the box, but there are a few plugins that add some basic functionality like social media sharing buttons and contact forms.
Content.
Your content is the most important part of your blog. It’s what will draw people in and keep them coming back for more. Here are a few tips for creating great content:
Headlines: Write headlines that are clear, concise, and to the point. Avoid clickbait headlines that make promises they can’t deliver on.
Subheadings: Use subheadings to break up your text and make it easier to read. Keep your subheadings short and sweet.
Lists: People love lists! Make sure to include plenty of lists in your blog posts to keep people engaged.
Paragraphs: Keep your paragraphs short and sweet. No one wants to read a wall of text.
Call-to-Actions: Include a call-to-action at the end of each post to encourage people to take action (subscribe to your newsletter, download a freebie, etc.).
