Daisaku Ikeda the author and 3rd president of the Soka Gakkai appears in the novel as Shinichi Yamamoto. Along with the 11 volumes of the Human Revolution (which chronicles the time Daisaku spend with the 2nd president Josei Toda) the 30 volumes of the New Human Revolution chronicles the time Daisaku Ikeda took the leadership of the organization up to about the 90s when SGI was excommunicated from Nichiren Shoshu, the temple organization that had benefited so much from the incredible growth of the SGI.
