John Adams lays out the uncertainties that the future holds for the colonists, due to their differences and how that may determine them uniting together as one country. During this time each colony was looked at itself as is own country in a sense. Virginians looked at themselves as Virginians and Pennsylvanians as Pennsylvanians, and so on, they did not see themselves as “American”, they solely identified themselves with their state of origin.
