It was mostly funded by the famous American banker J.P. Morgan who helped fund the loans that helped Germany rebuild their economy in order to put themselves in a position to pay reparations back to the world for the war.

Unfortunately we know this would ultimately lead to Germany regaining power and leading us into World War II.
