Gay Mirage

Gay marriage is one of the areas that unbelievers try to paint Christians as mean, homophobic, judgmental, etc. They tell us to say whatever we want in our churches but to shut our mouths in the public square. Should we as Christians leave gay people alone to get married? Are we being mean, homophobic, and judgmental by saying that marriage is between a man and a woman?
