Rock 'N Roll History #shorts
"Rock and Roll" is the music that became popular in the 1950s and came to define the most important style of pop music. The phrase "rocking and rolling" originally described the movement of a ship on the ocean, but by the early 20th century was used to describe both the spiritual fervor of black church rituals as well as being used as a sexual analogy. "rhythm and blues" was used since before it became popular among listeners. Revivals, blues, and swing had the phrase in titles or lyrics before it became a trend.. Rock and roll - the predecessor of rhythm and blues music - is said to be attributed to a 1940s band from Mississippi. 1943 saw the establishment of "Rock and Roll Inn" in South Merchantville, New Jersey, as a music venue. A year later, Cleveland, Ohio's Alan Freed began playing this style of music and used the word "rock and roll" to describe it. Rock and roll came about at a time of considerable technological change, as soon as the development of the electric guitar, amplifier and microphone, and the 45 rpm record. There were also changes in the record industry. with the rise from independent labels like Atlantic, Sun and Chess servicing niche audiences and a similar rise of radio stations that played their music. It was the realization that white teens in a position of affluence were listening to this music which led to the development of "rock and roll" as a genre. Rock and roll has many possible beginnings and while there's no single "first" record, it's generally agreed that Sister Rosetta Tharpe was the first to put rock-like elements into a gospel song. That said, "Rocket 88," by Ike Turner & amp; One of the many early artists to play rock 'n' roll music, Crudup's "Rockin' Band" is often credited for starting off with the first actual rock 'n' roll song. His song "That's All Right" was released in 1946 and gained instant popularity due to its new style of music. Rock 'n' Roll became popularized by(later covered by Bill Haley & His Comets in 1952),[55] "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats (Ike Turner and his band The Kings of Rhythm), recorded by Sam Phillips for Sun Records in March 1951.[56] In terms of its wide cultural impact across society in the US and elsewhere, Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" is one of the earliest records that helped to define rock & amp; roll. It was recorded in 1954, but it wasn't until the following year when – thanks largely to American teenagers' growing appetite for all things electrically amplified – Billboard magazine listed it as its number-one single. Rock and roll is generally accepted as the first genre of music to integrate elements that we now associate with rock, but it wasn’t the first. Throughout the 1920s, country records began to feature elements that we now associate with rock music, namely electric guitar & amp; drums. Other artists with early rock and roll hits included Berry, Diddley, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis & Gene Vincent. Chuck's 1955 classic "Maybellene" in particular features a distorted electric guitar solo with warm overtones coming to life through the careful application of reverb by producer Quincy Jones. However, the use of distortion was predated by electric blues guitarists. Joe Hill Louis,[61] Guitar Slim,[62] Willie Johnson of Howlin' Wolf's band, and Pat Hare used distortions to make electric blues a more powerful sound. The latter two also used distorted power chords in the early 1950s. In 1955, Bo Diddley introduced the "Bo Diddley Beat" and a distinctive guitar style that has influenced many musicians since. rock and roll, rock and roll definition, rock and roll origins, rock and roll history, rock and roll music, rhythm and blues Please LIKE, Subscribe, and if you really want to support the channel, SHARE.
