After Danielle Smith announced Bill 1, the “Alberta Sovereignty within a United Canada Act,” activists who prefer a left-leaning government organized a protest expressing opposition to sovereignty. Benita Pedersen organized a counter-protest that clearly expressed support for sovereignty.
