Steny Hoyer: My Expectation Is Kevin McCarthy Will Become Speaker of the House

BASH: “You seem to have a pretty good relationship with Kevin McCarthy.

HOYER: “I have a working relationship with Kevin McCarthy, yes.”

BASH: “Do you think he’s going to get the votes to be speaker?

HOYER: “I would be surprised if he doesn’t.”

BASH: “So you think he will be speaker?”

HOYER: “My expectation, he’ll be speaker.”

BASH: “Does he have what it takes to do the job?”

HOYER: “We’ll see. He obviously, if he gets 218 votes, has the ability to put together the votes to be the leader of the party, and he will then be tested as to whether or not he can lead. But, you know, he’s worked pretty hard at it. He got close to the holy grail, and he had to step back. But he didn’t give up. He kept going and it appears to me that he will be the speaker.”
