Lost treasure and unexplored places spring to mind when I think of maps.  Through National Geographic you can print out downloadable PDF maps from the USGS.  They are great, highly detailed topographical maps covering the whole United States.  And by stitching them together you can create your own custom map for your next backpacking adventure!
