What Does It Mean To Abolish The Police?

Should we decrease some of the load currently placed on police officers? Should they be called in to respond to certain types of calls like mental health crises? If some sort of intervention team were utilized instead, would they feel comfortable responding to those calls if there wasn't a police presence?
