So, how do we attach things to the outside of our gear?  I faced this problem as a Scout Swimmer in the Marine Corps.  My initial solution was to use a locking carabiner by Petzl.  For my needs, I found this lacking.  But, eventually I found the GrimLoc by ITW Nexus.  Whether attaching gear to the outside of my backpack or to MOLLE gear (Battle Belt), this solved the problem...
