The Politics of Socialism

Did you know that America has a long and proud history of embracing socialism? Were you aware that socialists helped to create the Republican Party? Would you be surprised to learn that, throughout much of our nation's history, socialists regularly advised Republican presidents? Many of our nation's most acclaimed and successful ideas were popularized by socialists, including Social Security, libraries, and public education. Furthermore, socialists have long mounted definitional defenses of freedom of speech and freedom of the press that to this day frame our contemporary understanding of these rights. This begs the question, just what do we have to fear from socialism?
