ROCK AND ROLLERS: Massive Rockslide In California Floods

This is the dramatic moment tonnes of rocks and rubble crash into a road in Fresno, California amid massive landslides and flooding.

Video footage of the devastation shows a huge boulder bouncing down a slope amid an avalanche of rocks and mud.

Floodwaters can be seen flowing rapidly down the slope and across the road.

Police say warmer weather and rain have caused huge amounts of snow to melt in local mountains freeing rocks and boulders.

The incident reportedly took place on State Road 168 between Prather and Shaver Lake, in Fresno County, which the authorities later closed.

Newsflash obtained a statement from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on Monday, 9th January, saying that motorists should exercise "extreme caution" and that they should "avoid travel to Shaver Lake and above if at all possible!"

California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Salas said: "We have a lot of debris, a big amount of runoff coming down from the mountain due to that big snowpack we're grateful to have.

However, with warmer rain, it's causing all that snow to quickly melt and causing all those problems here. Not only in the mountains but on the Valley floor."

Deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office have reportedly been busy diverting traffic in the area.

Millions of people are reportedly at risk of flooding as a fierce storm batters California. At least 14 people have died, according to reports, with the storm causing torrential downpours, high winds and massive flooding in the state.
