A glowing, reddish fireball hovers across the grounds of this Virginia historic landmark

The Arthur Allen House in Surry County, Virginia, popularly-known as "Bacon’s Castle", was built for English merchant Arthur Allen in 1665 near the James River. It is a rare example of Jacobean architecture and among the oldest surviving houses in North America. Its moniker "Bacon’s Castle" comes from its use as a fort during the 1676 Bacon's Rebellion, though no battles were fought there. Today it is a museum open for tours. Having stood for almost 360 years, it's no surprise Bacon’s Castle has picked up a ghost or two. Visitors and former residents report hearing disembodied footsteps and moaning, but its most dramatic manifestation is a reddish glowing fireball that hovers across the grounds. #virginia #history #haunted
