Talk: Slippery People with Growler

Dee Mulrooney is an Irish artist living and working in Berlin for the past seven years. Dee is primarily concerned with “art as medicine” and she embraces a number of disciplines to engage with the healing aspects of creating art.
Growler is Dee’s alter-ego and performance piece. She is an 81-year-old shamanic vulva exiled in Berlin. Driven out of Dublin by rising rents and a poor quality of life, Growler has appointed herself the voice of the forgotten woman. Through Growler, Dee’s performances explore femininity, classism, displacement, religion and the female experience.
The anonymity of the costume allows Growler to speak her mind on taboo topics like sexuality, religion, class and sexual violence.
Dee’s performance art is provocative and has a political point to make.

Dee Mulrooney ist eine irische Künstlerin, die seit sieben Jahren in Berlin lebt und arbeitet. Dee beschäftigt sich in erster Linie mit "Kunst als Medizin" und nutzt eine Reihe von Disziplinen, um sich mit den heilenden Aspekten des Kunstschaffens auseinanderzusetzen.
Growler ist Dees Alter-Ego und Performance-Stück. Sie ist eine 81-jährige schamanische Vulva im Exil in Berlin. Durch steigende Mieten und eine schlechte Lebensqualität aus Dublin vertrieben, hat sich Growler selbst zur Stimme der vergessenen Frau ernannt. Durch Growler erforscht Dee in ihren Performances Weiblichkeit, Klassismus, Vertreibung, Religion und die weibliche Erfahrung.
Die Anonymität des Kostüms erlaubt es Growler, ihre Meinung zu Tabuthemen wie Sexualität, Religion, Klasse und sexuelle Gewalt zu sagen.
Dees Performance-Kunst ist provokant und hat eine politische Aussage.
