I fail to see the point of charging Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter

I fail to see the point of charging Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter. This seems to have been a mistake. From what I gather the protocol may not have been followed correctly. But that seems to be the most one could say. In life mistakes are made. In life people do not always follow the rules to the letter. But what use is prosecuting Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter as your punching for what seems to be a mistake. Is it simply to please the mob. Is this where we are today we punish people the mob wishes. A bit like the French Revolution. It feels often people are getting punished for political reasons. Yet at the same time in the USA and indeed the UK people can walk into a shop. Rob it. And walk away with no punishment. We seem to be I. Some dark times at the moment.
