Today We Celebrate
For the first time since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, pro-lifers gathered in our nation’s capital for the annual March for Life. This, as a new Knights of Columbus–Marist poll reveals that the majority of Americans support anti-abortion laws.
According to the poll:
"69% of Americans support limiting abortion to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy. This survey . . . . also found that 91% of Americans support pregnancy resource centers, which offer support to mothers both during their pregnancy and after their baby is born. Additionally, the poll found that 60% of respondents oppose using tax dollars for abortion services domestically, and 78% oppose funding abortion services abroad. . . . Other key 2023 Knights of Columbus–Marist Poll findings include: 77% of Americans believe doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals with religious objections to abortions should not be legally required to perform them [and] a majority of Americans — 60% — are opposed to abortion if the child will be born with Down Syndrome."
ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow is in Washington, D.C. to take part in the movement. He reiterates the importance of our work now that abortion has moved from Washington to the states:
"We work on this issue every single day of our lives. This is the top priority for some of our legal team and policy team. They are always working on it: at the state level, at the local level, at the federal level, of course. That’s why I think it’s great to support groups like the ACLJ. We’re on the front lines for you on this issue."
Unfortunately, today’s celebration is also surrounded by controversy. The Supreme Court released a statement that reveals the investigation into identifying who leaked the Dobbs draft decision was unsuccessful. The statement reads in part:
"The investigation has determined that it is unlikely that the Court’s information technology (IT) systems were improperly accessed by a person outside the Court. After examining the Court’s computer devices, networks, printers, and available call and text logs, investigators have found no forensic evidence indicating who disclosed the draft opinion. They have conducted 126 formal interviews of 97 employees, all of whom denied disclosing the opinion. Despite these efforts, investigators have been unable to determine at this time, using a preponderance of the evidence standard, the identity of the person(s) who disclosed the draft majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Org. or how the draft opinion was provided to Politico."
ACLJ Senior Counsel Andy Ekonomou says we need to make one point clear:
"Contrary to some people’s statements, the Court is a victim in this case. The Court was victimized. It was one of the worst breaches of trust in history and a grave assault, as the Chief Justice said, in the judicial process."
Thankfully, the radical Left’s attempt to derail a life-changing decision by the Supreme Court of the United States failed. At the ACLJ, we will continue to celebrate LIFE in every season, and we will continue the fight to win over hearts and minds to defeat abortion.
