What you are seeing is a Cuy Farm in a remote region in Ecuador. They are not bred for pets but for food. The American word for these are Guinea Pigs and are considered a traditional dish and delicacy.

The owner of this farm once visited me in the US. He made a trip to a local pet store. He came home that night with dinner. After a couple more trips back to the store, he was asked about why so many Guinea pigs.

He was banned from the store.
