OMG!!! ITS BACK! Arcade 1Up Re-Releasing Star Wars Arcade

If you are a fan of Star Wars and arcade games we just got some amazing news as Arcade 1Up has announced they are bringing back and Re-Releasing the Star Wars stand-up arcade cabinet. Let's take a closer look.

When it comes to arcade cabinets, one that I have always wanted was the original Star Wars arcade game. I remember going to Butler Skateland in Butler, Wisconsin, and playing this for hours. The digitized voice, Obi-Wan Kenobi talking to me, he wasn't talking to Luke he was talking to me! Hearing Luke Skywalker yell Yahoo as the Death Star exploded. Happy beeps coming from R2-D2. It was one of my favorite experiences as a kid. I never thought it would be possible to own something like this in the past, and looking at what it would cost to get a good, working order Star Wars arcade cabinet is several thousand dollars. That's the main reason I don't own one.

Several years ago, arcade one up introduced the Star Wars arcade cabinet. It featured the same yoke controller that the original one did, but it also included Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi on it. I had actually never seen the Return of the Jedi in arcades back in the day, but it was something that I was definitely interested in. I figured I would save up for it and pick one up when I had a chance, but when I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy one, Arcade one up had discontinued them.

Rumors have been swirling around for years that the Star Wars arcade would be making a return. Arcade 1Up likes to release cabinets, discontinue them, make some improvements, and re-release them. They've done that multiple times with Pac-Man, Street Fighter, and other cabinets. Well, Star Wars has now gotten the same treatment! In late January 2023 Arcade one up announced that the Star Wars Arcade cabinet would be making a return, and it's bringing along some new features.

Only 3500 units are being re-released, with 308 available directly through Arcade 1Up. Well, those sold out right away but will ship before the end of January 2023. The other units will be sold through their partner website ShopHippo.com. I did not get my order in in-time for one of the first 308 but I did get one ordered from ShopHippo.

At $600 this is an expensive investment, not something that I would generally do for just three games. But damn, I've wanted this for a while, do I wait and see if I can catch one on deal?
