Core ideas of the first commentary:
1. Human moral growth is not inevitable. The advancement of institutions does not improve people individually.
2. Our "essence"; is our core self.
3. Essence grows naturally only to age 3 or 4. After that, personality takes over. The first growth of essence is the First Stage of development. The growth of personality is the Second Stage.
4. The Third Stage is not guaranteed. It takes conscious effort and hard work.
5. Personality is not "bad"; It's an essential part of our growth, as well.
6. In the third stage, our essence feeds off our personality in order to grow.
7. All of this is told in the Parable of the Prodigal Son.
