Would you ride this old Soviet train in Ukraine? 🇺🇦

We decided to get an elektrichka to Bilhorod-Dniestrovskyi, which is over two hours away from Odessa on an old Soviet commuter train called elektrichka. These trains are really slow as there are so many stops along the way, and they're part of the reason that there aren't many high-speed rail networks in such a huge country like Ukraine. It's impossible for a high speed train to run efficiently on a track with elektrichka stopping every few minutes. To add high speed trains between cities like Kyiv and Lviv, they had to create new lines.

An elektrichka is a Soviet and Eastern bloc commuter (regional) mostly suburban electrical multiple unit passenger train. Elektrichkas are widespread in Russia, Ukraine and other countries of the former Warsaw Pact presenting a socially vital mode of transportation.

On this soviet train, you can see a guy playing an accordion, people getting drunk, it's extremely hot, it stops so often and it's full of people going to the beach. It's only 25 UAH for a 2 hour journey, so you can see the demand. 25 UAH is less than £1.

These trains are essential to locals as taxis are far too expensive.
