As former Stanford baseball teammates J.D. Willcox and Sam Fuld began a quick "catch up" call earlier this year, they had no idea what an exciting partnership lie ahead. Sam, a member of the Oakland Athletics, was deep in the pennant race during his 7th MLB season when they chatted about their fantasy football league matchup. Sam mentioned his partnership with SLAMDiabetes, and his excitement for the upcoming Wiffle Ball tournament to benefit the Sam Fuld Diabetes Sports Camp, and J.D.'s interest was immediately piqued.

Hydration is extremely important to athletes, and diabetic athletes in particular. By recalling how Sam diligently monitored his blood-glucose levels between innings in the PAC-10, this brief phone conversation connected some dots for J.D. to figure out how he could help out. J.D. recently started Qore Performance®, focused on giving athletes a performance edge during competition. J.D. had not considered the differentially positive impacts his products could have on diabetic athletes, and this call opened his eyes to a group of people who truly could benefit. J.D. and Qore Performance® have not only signed on to sponsor the Sam Fuld Tampa Classic, but also will be sponsoring five additional SLAMDiabetes tournaments in 2015 to raise awareness and support this great cause. For the Tampa Classic, J.D. and Sam will be teaming up one more time as members of the Fightin' Fulds in their quest to bring home the trophy on December 13th. When asked about their reunion on the Wiffle Ball field and the cause that brought them together again. J.D. adds, "Although I didn’t quite get to the big leagues like Sam, we’re doing something here that can help a lot of people and I get to take the field with current and future big leaguers, which is pretty close to a dream come true.”
