S04E01: Becker's Easy Eats: Easy Pad Krapao Moo

Sawadee Krup! Pad Krapao Moo. Stir Fry Pork with Basil. The quintessential Thai dish popular all over the world. It is delicious, easy to make and very flexible as to what you wish to put in it. This time, we are making the basic and classic Moo version - no, not beef, pork.

A thing to note is the type of basil to use on this dish. Traditionally, holy basil is used (as krapao means holy basil), but since it is not readily accessible in some parts of the world, other types of basil can be used. The closest one can get to holy basil in terms of flavor would be Genovese basil (the type used in Italian cuisine and making pesto sauce) or sweet basil (which I am using in this recipe). Thai basil his also another variant to be considered.

EASY PAD KRAPAO MOO

Ingredients:
500g ground pork
Big bunch of basil
3 – 4 pcs red chili
6 – 7 cloves of garlic
4 – 5 pcs shallots
1 tbsp white sugar
2 tbsp fish sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
3 tbsp water
Salt to taste

Serve with:
1 cup cooked Jasmine rice
1 crispy fried egg (called khai dao)

Optional condiment:
Chopped chili
Fish sauce
Lime Juice
