AT4 - Alana Mediavilla, Film Maker

Alana Mediavilla founded her production company ‘Filmkik’ over 10 years ago and has been producing videos for Silicon Valley companies throughout this time.

She has had an interest in bitcoin since 2015, but increasingly she came to realise the importance of bitcoin in protecting individual and societal freedoms throughout the world.

Having observed some of the rhetoric around the environmental damage that bitcoin mining was allegedly causing, she decided to investigate further.

The result is the documentary ‘Dirty Coin’ scheduled for release in 2024, which covers: bitcoin mining, one of its underlying technologies ‘proof-of-work’, and its demand for large amounts of power. The film separates fact, from factoids and provides a window into what bitcoin mining is.
