Georges Buscemi, Président of Campagne Québec-Vie, speaks in front of the Supreme Court Building in Ottawa, Canada on January 26, 2023.

CLC organized a rally and press conference on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the Morgentaler decision where the Supreme Court, siding with abortionist Henry Morgentaler, struck down Canada’s law governing abortion.

He pointed out three main take aways from this decision:
1. The Supreme Court did not find a right to abortion.
2. The Court did not settle the abortion question
3. The Court invited Parliament to pass a new law balancing the rights of the mother with the state’s interest in protecting the life of the fetus.

At the event, Canadian pro-life leader and CLC president Jeff Gunnarson read a letter to Liberal leader Justin Trudeau (read full letter here) demanding that the Prime Minister take up the Supreme Court’s 1988 invitation that Parliament pass a law protecting humans in the womb.
