Anaximander of Miletus was a very important pre-Socratic philosopher and geographer from 610 BC to 545 BC.
Anaximander was born in Miletus, like his teacher Tales, and he shared his teachings and reflections with Anaximenes, his student. Anaximander's most important idea is "arché," which means "the beginning of all things."
He only went beyond one of his works, the interesting one called "About Nature." This book was lost, but its teachings were rediscovered through the doxographic comments of later scholars. His work in astronomy and geography was important because he was the first to measure the solstices and equinoxes. He was also the first to say that the Earth is round, although he was wrong when he said that he was in the center of the universe.
