Savage Axis Trigger Job - Fix Trigger Creep | The Social Regressive

The Savage Axis has one of the worst triggers available in a modern rifle. This trigger job video demonstrates the way we eliminated the trigger creep.

Trigger creep is the trigger's movement before it disengages and the firing pin is released. Many triggers exhibit some creep, but a good trigger will have none. A competitor wants to simply apply a fixed force to the trigger face until the trigger "breaks," and the rifle fires. Creep occurs when there is a large distance between the height of the trigger's upper plane and lower plane.

In the case of this Savage Axis trigger, there was a difference of around 21 thousandths of an inch. We needed to reduce that distance. Using a sheet of steel cut from a binder clip, we created a shim that we could epoxy onto the trigger's lower plane.

We stuck with common tools, including:

2. Bench Vise
3. Propane Torch
4. File
5. India Stone or Sandpaper
6. Hammer
7. Pliers
8. Handscrew Clamp
