Why did I choose the Savage 12FV as the base for the new 1-mile rifle? Let's take a close look!

The inexpensive Savage 12 FV, available only through Cabela's, offers all the components you need for long-range precision. The well-proven open-top action connects to a 26" varmint-profile barrel, available in 204 Ruger, 223 Remington, 22-250 Remington, 308 Winchester, and now 6.5 Creedmoor. The jeweled bolt features the typical Savage floating bolt head and a large varmint bolt knob. Throw in the Accutrigger, and you have a rifle that's ready for surgical work.

The Savage 12FV lacks only three elements that we might want: muzzle threading, a comfortable prone stock, and a drop-free magazine. We can add the latter two elements with an aftermarket stock and bottom metal.

I chose to get my Savage rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, a decision which I'll explain in a later video.
