The scene starts in a hospital setting. Maria tells Be Salama about her ordeal, and she soothes her by telling her that from then on, she considered her and Sultana to be her blood, and that they were now a team, and that they should focus on Sultana.

Kaka is surprised that Amina is back home so early; Amina explains that a woman came to her place of work and bought everything in her shop; she asks Kaka why he was back so early and whether he was able to find work; he explains that he came across some men digging but that he wouldn't get the job unless he had his own spade; Amina offers him money to buy the spade, but Kaka is humiliated and refuses to accept it; she encourages him to consider it a loan, but he still refuses.
