61 Mech attacked Smokeshell Base (Ops Sceptic) in July 1980. Three Ratels were shot out and many SADF members died and or were wounded. One, HP Ferreira, who served with 1 SAI, 61 Mech, was shot by a 14.5mm anti-aircraft machine gun. Since then, 1980, he had 96 operations and lives in constant pain.
