Greg discusses what your manure piles should look like on winter stockpile. If you have excessive stacking of manure from your cattle grazing winter stockpile, that is an issue. No more than 3" height is best for excellent animal performance. Animals may be losing weight each day if your manure looks like a mountain. The animals are not able to digest it very well and the forage is lacking protein and energy which is a problem. If you can't get them better hay or grazing than you may need to put out a protein lick tub to help them digest your roughage that they are consuming.
If you want to keep your farm profitable every year, check out my 3 grazing books that I wrote on our website: http://greenpasturesfarm.net/books/
