Neil Gaiman’s Sandman on Netflix takes some liberties in it’s adaption, and nowhere more so than in it’s adaption of John Constantine – previously made famous by Keanu Reeves and Matt Ryan, but now changed into Johanna Constantine. But was that this purely the result of a creative choice, or was there more to it?

Spoiler alert: there was, and it echoes both Star Trek and Star Wars.
