On March 16th, Youtuber Shartimus Prime scored an interview with Todd McFarlane, the legendary comicbook creator, entrepreneur and manufacturer of collectible toys.
McFarlane has of course been remarkable successful at everything he has ever done, but especially the toy side of things, as his company, McFarlane Toys, relative to size, is one of the most successful toy companies of all time. Clearly, McFarlane knows his stuff and most importantly, he understands the market; and in this interview, he shared some very compelling insights behind his success.
One of them, is that when it comes to the boys action figure market, male figures sell better than female figures.
This revelation, and the way it was worded, caused a tremendous amount of shock, horror, and hurt feelings in the Twittersphere. It cut so deep that Bleeding Cool saw fit to release an article titled “Todd McFarlane Puts Foot In Mouth About Female Action Figures”, and this article attacks not just Todd McFarlane, but reality itself.
