21
The coup, which was led by Lt. Colonel Bukar Suwa Dimka, claimed the life of General Murtala Muhammed. Dimka was a fugitive for a few weeks until his capture. During his interrogation, he implicated many military officers including Major General Iliya Bisalla, the Minister of Defence.
The first part of the footage shows Major General Bisalla being tied to the stake at the Lagos Bar Beach prior to his public execution on March 11, 1976.
The second segment features Lt. Colonel Dimka at a press conference during which he confirmed that he had made a recorded confession and that his admissions had not been made "under duress".
Dimka was executed by firing squad in May 1976.
