Garden Work & Started Digging Underground Greenhouse

I am putting up a third row of string to hold up the tomatoes. They are growing nicely now. I started to dig out our submerged greenhouse in hopes of growing food all year.

The tomatoes are growing nicely now. With the addition of the raw chicken manure and bedding, the tomatoes are really taking off. I have to string them up higher and higher. We have a lot of tomatoes growing and hope they will be ripe before the frost.

Our first frost will already be in September so we have to be ready.

Therefore I am starting to dig out our greenhouse. This will be fully below the ground so that the earth's stable temperature of 50 degrees F will help us keep the room above freezing all year.

In summer it will help us to keep cool weather crops growing. In winter it will help us to keep some veggies going. We also hope to overwinter our annual herbs for the next season. This will save us a lot of money each year.

I hope to have barrels of water to absorb the heat of the sun during the winter and help keep the greenhouse warm all night.

I will most likely have an attached cold cellar where we can store buckets of frozen water during the winter. This will give us a cold food storage room for the summer months. Again the steady temperature of the earth at that depth will help us in this task.
