First Snow ~ Off Grid Water Tanks Filling ~ Insulating Greenhouse
It snowed in the morning which later turned to rain. A lot of rain. Our off grid rain water tanks filled up. I worked in the greenhouse insulating the walls and cleaning the windows.
It never got out of the 30s yesterday and hung around 32 most of the day. It only started to warm up after dark last night.
We started out with a gentle snow falling in the morning. Melanie was excited about the snow and was taking photos and watching her breath steam up in the air. She is having fun experiencing this all for the first time. Well, she has seen the cold in spring but has not seen the fall weather and the turning of the colors and death of everything.
Later it turned into rain and it kept raining all day. We never saw Chris at all during this day. He took the day off due to the bad weather.
I worked in the greenhouse most of the day. I cleaned all the windows inside and out. It really looks amazing with the glass all cleaned up. You can see outside as if there was no glass in the way at all.
This will greatly improve the amount of sunlight and heat energy getting into the greenhouse this winter.
Later I worked on the M45 tent stove a little bit. I am trying to seal off all the gaps in the seams and around the doors to give me more control over the burn of the stove. Right now it burns hot and out of control. I hope to seal off the gaps and gain control over the stove for use in the off grid rain water and battery shed. This will be a separate video though when the entire project is finished.
A package arrived in the mail today containing a wood stove thermometer. This will be great in the off grid water shed wood stove which I am just finishing up for use. Thank you.
I went back into the greenhouse and started insulating the walls inside. It was a little bit warmer in there than outside and I wanted to accomplish something with the day since it was still raining pretty hard outside.
We got a little over 300 gallons of rain water during this day which gives us about 400 gallons of water total. This is the most rain I have seen all year so far. This is like the rain I used to get the past years.
Back in the greenhouse I managed to get most of the back wall insulated. I wanted to put up some paneling to cover the insulation but I ran out of daylight. There are many nails in the boards and I have to remove them before I can use them. But it was too dark to see what I was doing and I have no spare lights charged up right now. We have not seen a full day of sunlight in a while and the off grid tiny house battery bank is getting low.
