Mega Busy Day At The Homestead Part 1

It was a very busy day at the nearly off grid homestead with both Melanie and I working on various things.

Melanie has been harvesting herbs from our own herb garden and using them for cooking. We have been eating salads from our own garden as well. We no longer have to buy any herbs or seasonings for our food. We simply go out back and pick what we need at the time. Melanie uses the sun to dry out her herbs each day as needed.

We are also using the sun to heat our shower water each day using solar camp showers. This is free energy.

The solar panels are powering everything in our home but the water pump. We hope to be able to expand our solar panel output to include even that soon.

I cleaned up the wood scraps out back by the chicken coop. I am getting the construction zone back there cleaned up now that I have a dry wood storage area. I will do all my cutting and work back by the wood shop from now on and keep the building materials dry.

I burnt all the wood scraps in our bonfire pit to get rid of them. I was going to keep them for kindling wood but we have many acres of land so we dont have to save wood scraps now.

A few little odd shaped pieces I do keep for projects. If I find a piece of wood that is unique I will save it for the off grid wood shop.

We received a package in the mail containing a camo uniform for our little girl. We cant wait to see her in it. Thank you.

We put the chickens outside every day to get free food and vitamins. Our chickens are very happy and love to go outside each morning.

Even the tiny little chicks got out today for the first time ever. They were too small until now to handle the outside temperatures. They were very happy eating grass and weeds.

I am cleaning out the chicken coop today as well. The entire chicken coop needs a thorough cleaning today.
