Radiant Foil On Insulated Greenhouse Ceiling & Door

I finally got the radiant foil when shopping the other day. I had previously finished putting up insulation in the ceiling. I decided that there is no need for paneling on the ceiling. I am just going to put up the radiant foil to reflect heat back into the greenhouse.

I had also picked up some staples for my staple gun. It was a simple job of putting up a sheet of radiant foil on the ceiling. It just took a little bit of time to get it done because I had to move the ladder around and climb up on things. But I got it up there.

Next I put in a damper on the wood stove. It has been burning way too fast. Recently I put in some stove cement to seal the gaps where the mice had eaten the stove gaskets. Now I needed to install the damper. This should hopefully slow down the heat blowing up the pipe.

I then started to frame in the door of the off grid greenhouse. Wind was blowing around the door. Especially on the top and bottom of the door where there were big gaps.

I used the 2x3 lumber I had on hand already and closed off the gaps.

I also put radiant foil on the door to help seal it off and prevent heat loss. This reflects heat back into the greenhouse and limits the heat loss through the door.

The radiant foil also acts as a seal to stop wind. It presses firmly against the new door framing and seals it off. Bonus.

I then got a fire going in the greenhouse wood stove and within minutes it was warming up in there nicely. Within a short time it was 51 degrees in the greenhouse and rising although the temperatures outside were falling below freezing.

I use the greenhouse to varnish my recycled pallet wood coffee coasters and products. It is the warmest place on the homestead and also the most dust free since there is no wind blowing around inside and lifting up dust. Its a nice place to work.
