Homestead Work Then Survival Camping With Melanie
Chris and I were logging out the woods again to enlarge our meadow on our off grid 56 acre piece of land. We are planning to expand our useful area this year and add some huge free range chicken areas and a new goat run.
We have been logging the place out for a couple weeks now. It is hard work but it sure will pay off in the end. We need to clear out the trees which are blocking our solar panels on the off grid tiny home. And we need the space for our birds and goats. Plus this will provide fire wood to heat our off grid tiny house on wheels.
Later Melanie and I packed up our gear, took our boat and motor and headed out to Pine Island. Some of you may remember Pine Island from my adventure last year with some friends. This is an island fully surrounded on all sides by water. You can only get there by boat. Its a great place to work on survival skills and test out some new gear.
Check out my tactical and outdoor channel for the videos of our time out on Pine Island where we tried out some cool gear: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChPdsvwahC2wh8lvWs6ud4g
I took the new boat motor someone sent us in the mail plus a deep cycle battery that I picked up from the scrap metal yard last year. It is only two years old to this month. And it is in very good shape.
The boat motor moves this light little boat very nicely. And it sure is fast. I love it. We can get around the little lake on the neighboring property with ease.
I really took the boat out for a whirl and even did some donuts which both excited and scared Melanie.
The electric trolling motor is perfect for this little boat. It fits right on and moves us along well. The motor has some blue LED lights on top to show the status of charge of the battery. Our battery was topped right off and showing a full charge.
I wish I had shown this but I had charged up the battery earlier on the off grid tiny house solar power system. The solar panels were pumping power into the tiny house battery bank. From there we have a power inverter providing AC power as needed. I used a standard battery charger to top off the boat battery for our trip.
