Mounting 11 HP Engine On Antique Log Splitter & Test Run

I spent some time cleaning the carburetor of the old 11 HP electric start gas engine. Then I gave it a tune up and two oil changes to clean out the water in the crankcase.

After it was running smoothly it was time to mount the old engine on my antique log splitter. I got this log splitter a couple years ago for free and put a little 3 HP Harbor Freight gas engine on it. This did the job but could not split larger logs.

After I was satisfied that the 11 HP engine was running well and had cleaned itself out enough I took it over to the log splitter.

I had to drill new mounting holes because this is a larger engine with a larger base plate. And then I discovered that my bolts were also too short. I had to run into town for bolts to fit this engine.

Finally I got the engine in place and the belt on the pulley.

It fired right up and I split some logs with it. This is certainly a more powerful engine. It does not bog down at all with the larger logs. The only problem I have now is occasional slipping of the belt with a particularly tough log.

I think that the log splitter needs to have the blade sharpened. This will most likely make a big difference and improve the performance of the machine.

But for now I can split all the fire wood I have around the homestead from clearing all the land.
