Shortline Railroading Done Right: Kawartha Lakes Railway

Canadian Pacific’s branchline in central Ontario is operated internally as the Kawartha Lakes Railway Short Line. An employee managed experiment started in 1996 for innovative customer rail service through an involved a workplace it has been a success. TCRC 295 division employees operate trains along with maintenance from Teamsters Rail MOW Division and the occasional outside contractor. The main products currently shipped are Covia’s Nepheline Syenite used jn glass and ceramic products along with paints plastics and cleaning abrasives. IKO roofing granules and potash and fertilizer loads for Cavan Agri Services.
