On an evolutionary basis, our brains seek to protect us. The brain doesn’t crave for any police officer or any person to be involved in a traumatic event. That is why it is ever so crucial to actively cope with stress, demands of the job, and trauma exposure.

I wish I would have been told this when I went through the rookie school prior to being sworn in and assigned as a patrol officer.

You cannot escape your human brain, law enforcement or not. But for police officers you have to admit your human and not invincible when it comes to mental well-being.
