This week was my 40th birthday, and my wife gave me the greatest gift one could have: Time. She gave me time to relax, time to refresh, time to choose my choices. Too many times, especially recently, I've found that I make choices but really I'm not, it's simply me responding to life. This is broken so now I fix it. Time to go to work. Administrative tasks with deadlines. All demanding my time. Wash rinse repeat.

Music, especially drumming, brings peace to me. Recording it and posting it holds me accountable to my plan. I can track my progress, share my joy with friends and family, and stay on this path to inner peace. It's hard to explain, but when I'm jamming out and feeling it, my brain is operating at a level that brings me to a place of peace.

I spoke with a co-worker this week who was professionally trained on a practice pad for over a year before his teacher allowed him to play his first snare drum. And I realized that, had I been given the chance to learn drums as a kid, I likely would not have enjoyed it. His story of built up frustration around wanting to simply play, like a kid, he was simply discouraged during that time. I know when he hears my music, he will hear many mistakes, just as I observe with people's cooking (when you're trained, your observations are more precise in the areas you have experience in). But I'm playing from my heart, learning with my brain, and simply playing. Him sharing his experience solidified my peace at where I'm at compared to when I began playing. And I appreciated his wisdom and sharing his story with me, it was shared at a time I needed to hear it.

And when I had a free Saturday, I wanted to get another video posted to my channel. This one is special because my daughter knows Stacy's Mom who makes several appearances!
