Putting Trojan T105 Batteries In My Off Grid Tiny Home

I ripped out all the wiring in my off grid tiny house and rewired the entire thing with the new Trojan T105 batteries I got the other day.

I had to remove all the old wiring in my tiny home first. I have wanted to rewire the entire tiny house anyway using thicker and shorter wires.

I first removed the interior wiring from the tiny house kitchen. I had the wires under the kitchen counter when I built the off grid tiny house because I was single. Now that I am married, Melanie needs that space. So all the wiring is going on the wall under the solar charge controllers.

Some of the wiring will go outside in the battery shed. I will build a protective box for it all.

Next I had to take out the old batteries I have been using. These were old batteries I bought at scrap metal price from the recycling center. I got lucky on these and they work very well.

I had to cut a pallet to give me a stronger floor for the new Trojan batteries. These batteries weigh about 600 pounds together.

Then I cut two 11x2 boards to go under the battery bank. This will help distribute the weight of the batteries better.

Underneath the trailer frame I put some more blocks under the I beam frame of the tiny house on wheels. The battery bank is sitting on the bumper of the tiny house trailer.

Now I was ready to install the new battery bank.

This project took me all day because I had to drill a new hole for the wiring and then run all new wires into the off grid tiny house on wheels.

I also had to manufacture my own connecting wires for the Trojan batteries. These are 6 volt batteries and have to be connected in pairs to give me 12 volt battery banks.

I did not have enough crimp on connectors that fit the 00 gauge wires I am using. Nobody in town had any either. So one set of batteries has to wait until I can find the right sized connectors.

I ran very short wires between the solar charge controllers and the battery bank. These wires are about three feet long now.

The wires between the power inverter and the battery bank are about four feet long. Way shorter than what I had been using before. This will improve the power in my tiny home and reduce losses in the lines considerably.

I also changed the wires between the solar panels and the solar charge controllers, making them thicker and reducing losses in the lines.

Next I will install the new solar change controller I got from preppernurse1 and install more solar panels on my off grid tiny house on wheels.

The cut off switches and charge controller will go into a protective box I will build on the wall of the battery shed.
